Agency For Hearing (incorporated as Sacramento Hearing Services Center, Inc) is a non-profit, United Way agency that loans reconditioned hearing aids at a flat rate to households on a limited income. Hearing testing, hearing aid repairs and coping strategy classes are available as is our education outreach and referral services. California Telephone Access Program (CTAP)

Sign Language Classes
Think of it as a chance to enrich your life! You will still communicate with people who don't sign and make new friends. Request interpreters for your classes and lectures. Many community colleges offer classes.

Employment Assistance
A) Employment Development Department (EDD) has special counselors trained to work with the hard-of-hearing employees who already have jobs.
B) Vocational Rehabilitation provides money for training, hearing aids, assistive listening devices and coping classes if necessary for job placement. You may call (916) 227-9390 (TTY) or (916) 227-0301 (Voice). www.edd.ca.gov

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
If you are hard-of-hearing you may qualify for monthly cash payments from the Federal Government. There are income and asset limitations Contact your local Social Security office for more information.

American With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
Is Federal law for all types of disabilities including hearing loss. Employment discrimination is prohibited. Public facilities (theaters, classrooms, concerts, etc.) must be Communication accessible, meaning that assistive listening devices are provided.
